Special Campus Safety Message from Dr. Eliseo "Cheo" Torres
January 19, 2017 - Dorene DiNaro
The safety of our students and campus community is always a top concern for our Division and our University. As a public institution, we honor free speech and support sharing viewpoints.
We must learn how to listen to each other and be heard by engaging in civil dialogue about complex issues.
As you are probably aware, several events are scheduled on campus in the coming weeks. Every Lobo plays a critical role in protecting our pack. If you see something, report it. Use campus safety resources listed at campussafety.unm.edu.
- Download the LoboGuardian mobile app and create a virtual safety network of friends, family, and the UNM Police Department.
- Sign up for Lobo Alerts.
- Know where emergency blue phones are located.
- Report incidents to the Office of Equal Opportunity.
- Be informed
- Get involved and know your rights
The Dean of Students office is hosting a free Student Free Speech: Know your Rights and Responsibilities panel discussion on January 25 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the SUB Atrium. I encourage you to attend and learn from attorneys specializing in free speech and media law; and from our director of Student Activities about free speech events and what UNM policies apply.
Most importantly remember we are all Lobos first and foremost and need to look out for each other.
