Honoring Culture: Advancing Social Justice

SUB Atrium and Cornell Mall 

This FREE event is a platform to openly discuss past, present, and future race, gender, class, and other social issues in a progressive, inclusive way though a panel discussion, presentations, and poetry and dance.  The event is spearheaded by El Centro de la Raza in conjunction with several UNM departments and programs.


10 a.m.         Opening Prayer - Dolly Manson, Faculty Linguistics; Welcome and reading of proclamation - Dr. Eliseo "Cheo" Torres
10:30 a.m.    Panel discussion: Honoring Culture: Advancing Social Justice, Past, Present and Future
12 p.m.         Dance party
1 p.m.           Poetry
1:20 p.m.      Closing Remarks – Dr. Lawrence Roybal; Closing Prayer - Dr. Greg Cajete – Faculty/Director of Native American Studies

Student Free Speech:  Know your Rights and Responsibilities

UNM SUB Atrium 

The Dean of Students Office is hosting this FREE panel discussion including: First Amendment attorney specialists: Eliza Bechtold, from the ACLU; Martin Esquivel who specializes in free speech and media law; and Greg Williams, First Amendment expert attorney; and director of UNM Student Activities, Debbie Morris, will also join the panel to discuss student responsibilities such as how to reserve space for a free speech event and what UNM policies apply.
