The University of New Mexico is committed to wellness, prevention, and providing a healthy environment to learn, work and visit. Therefore, on August 1, 2009, the University put a policy in place making the campus ?tobacco-free? with smoking permitted only in designated areas.

Gomez-Chavez Selected for National Hispanic Heritage Award

Jennifer Gomez-Chavez, director of UNM Title V has been selected for a National Hispanic Heritage Award. She will go to Long Beach, Calif. next week to receive $2,500 to designate for a charitable organization.

UNM and CNM Receive DOE Funding for UNM CNM STEM Undergraduate Pathway Project

The Office of Student Services and Central New Mexico College were recently awarded funding in the amount of $4.2 million by the U.S. Department of Education for the UNM, CNM STEM Undergraduate Pathway (STEM UP) project. The project partners UNM with CNM to improve systemic pathways and increase student transfers from two-year to four-year institutions in STEM technical education opportunities that adequately prepare Hispanic and low-income students for STEM careers.

Student Services and OSET Receive DOE Funding for PIUSS project

The Office of Student Services and the Office of Success Effective Teaching (OSET) were awarded funding in the amount of $3.8 million from the U.S. Department of Education for a five-year term for the Project for Inclusive Undergraduate STEM Success (PIUSS).

UNM Forms Skateboard Committee

In response to recent concerns by UNM students and staff about safety issues relating to skateboarders on the UNM campus, the Interim Dean of Students, Kim Kloeppel, formed a campus-wide administrative committee and a student group to address concerns not only regarding skateboards, but also the use of all non-motorized vehicles on campus.
