STEM UP to Hold Open House

STEM logoScience Technology Engineering and Math Under graduate Pathways (STEM UP) a cooperative grant, will host an open house for the new transfer center at Central New Mexico Community College’s Main Campus on Wednesday Nov. 14, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of the SRC grass area and L Building. Advisors, tutors, and peer mentors will be available to offer information, refreshments, and door prizes.

The transfer center is a valuable resource for students pursuing STEM degrees at CNM and planning on transferring to UNM. The transfer center will offer STEM specific academic advising, individualized tutoring, workshops, peer mentoring, transfer assistance, and degree and STEM career information. This new center will support the pathway between CNM and University of New Mexico making transfer to UNM smooth and less intimidating.

The CNM/UNM STEM UP Cooperative provides services and resources to undergraduate CNM and UNM students with the goal of increasing the number of Hispanic and low-income students attaining degrees in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Another goal is to develop model transfer articulation agreements in STEM fields between CNM and UNM.

STEM UP is a Title V grant, funded for five years in the amount of $3.5 million by the Department of Education and authorized under Title III, Part F, section 371 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended, Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM and Articulation Program Cooperative.
