Student Activities and ASUNM to Host Welcome Back Days

August 12, 2014 - Dorene DiNaro

Welcome Back Days LogoStudent Activities and the Associated Students of UNM (ASUNM) are welcoming students back to the University for the fall semester during their annual Welcome Back Days on campus.  A variety of events are planned beginning this week with Operation Lobo Move-in, an event that helps welcome students to residence housing by helping them unload and move their belongings into their dorm rooms.  This Friday, Aug. 15, features Friday Night Live from 8 to 11 p.m. in the SUB where students can join 2,000 of their peers for free food, karaoke, casino games, student organization information, giveaways and much more!

On Sunday, Aug. 17, Student Activities will team up with Residence Life, and the Dean of Students Office to host the class crawl after the Freshman Convocation Ceremony.  Class crawl helps students familiarize themselves with where their classes are located via a personal campus tour by a UNM staff member.  Participants will meet at the SUB Mall immediately following the Freshman Convocation Ceremony.  Sunday night students can also enjoy Godzilla during the “Movie on the Field" night at 8 p.m. on Johnson Field.

During the week of Aug. 18 Welcome Back Days events occur daily featuring information booths and food near the Duck Pond from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.   Each day features a different theme as follows:

  • Monday, Aug. 18:  UNM President’s Ice Cream Social
  • Tuesday, Aug. 19:  Safety, Health, Wellness and ROTC day
  • Wednesday, Aug. 20:  Women’s, LGBTQ and Cultural day
  • Wednesday, Aug. 20:  North Campus Day (11:30 to 1:30 on the BMSB plaza)
  • Thursday, Aug. 21:  Student Organization and Information Day
  • Friday, Aug. 22:  Campus Employment and Community Service Day

Career Services will host a student job fair on Friday, Aug. 22, which will give students an opportunity to meet with many UNM departments, program representatives and off-campus work-study partners who are looking for students interested in working on campus.  For more information on the job fair, visit Career Services.  For more information on any of the Welcome Back Days events, please visit Student Activities Center.
