UNM Children's Campus Receives CCAMPIS Grant

October 21, 2014 - Dorene DiNaro

For the third time, the UNM Children’s Campus has been awarded the 4-year Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) grant in the amount of $427,000 annually for a total of $1,708,000 at the end of the 4 years. This Department of Education grant, allows the Children's Campus to offer free or reduced childcare to pell eligible student parents while they are in class, receiving tutoring, meeting with professors, and participating in study groups.

The grant, which began on October 1, has proven to be a beneficial resource for UNM students who either don’t need or can’t afford full-time care on a set schedule.  “I have been a stay at home dad for the last few years taking courses online as I was able to and I was not comfortable just sending my daughter anywhere,” says Ryan Martin, a UNM junior majoring in elementary education.  “CCAMPIS has provided me the opportunity to go forth in my degree program.  The UNM Children’s Campus gave me piece of mind and I am in awe at the amount of things my daughter is learning.”

Please visit UNM Children’s Campus for more information about their programs or CCAMPIS for more information about the grant.
