September 24, 2018 - Dorene DiNaro

McNair Conference logoThe UNM McNair Scholars Program and Research Opportunity Program will host its 2018 UNM McNair Scholars Research Conference, Discover the Power of Networking, on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 4-5 on the UNM Campus.

This large national conference with an emphasis on the importance of undergraduate research and the pursuit of a Ph.D. currently has 237 undergraduate scholars of all majors from 49 different universities scheduled to present.

Participants include McNair scholars from The University of New Mexico and scholars from across the nation who will showcase their high-level research in a moderated symposium.  “We will have over 90 oral research presentations and more than 75 poster research presentations,” says Ricardo Romero, director McNair and ROP Scholars Programs.

This conference will be one of the largest of its type, and aside from the great networking opportunity with over 50 faculty and 40 graduate students serving as evaluators, the benefits for participants are great.  “Just by participating in this conference, these students will increase their chances of getting into graduate school,” Romero says.
