Butrum Named ARC Interim Director
April 22, 2020 - Dorene DiNaro
Dr. Eliseo “Cheo” Torres, Vice President for Student Affairs is pleased to announce the appointment of Amanda Butrum, as the Interim Director for the UNM Accessibility Resource Center
Butrum takes over the helm following the retirement of longtime director Dr. Joan Green at the end of April. Butrum has been with The University of New Mexico since 2005—and actually started just a few weeks after Green.
Prior to moving to New Mexico, Butrum lived in Southern California where she earned her M.A. in Social Sciences with an emphasis on Women’s Studies from California State University San Bernadino. She also holds an A.S. degree in Sign Language Interpreting which led to her career in Disability Services with CSU San Bernadino.
Butrum says that she is excited to begin her new role, on May 1, despite the uncertainty and transition our university, city, and state face in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. She says that although this is an interesting time to be starting a new role, she plans to build on and strengthen the remarkable work that Green created for ARC.
“Although we are all concerned and face many challenges during this pandemic, all of us at ARC have been working together to find ways to connect with students and with each other regularly, she says. “Dr. Joan Green created a strong foundation for ARC and I hope to build on what she has done—the limited Operations period won’t change that.
