Baca Named to Governor’s COVID-Safe Practices Committee

May 8, 2020 - Dorene DiNaro

DanielaDaniela Baca, Director for the UNM Children’s Campus has been designated by Elizabeth Groginsky, NM Cabinet Secretary for the Early Childhood Education and Care Department (ECECD), to serve on the state’s newly-formed COVID-Safe Practices (CSPs) Subcommittee for Early Childhood.

Groginsky says that the state recognizes the profound and essential work of early childhood education and care professionals. This CSP is designed to ensure the safety of early childhood education and care professionals, the children in their care, and the families who depend on their services.

The subcommittee is part of the Governor’s Economic Recovery Council and designed to guide businesses on how to safely resume operations amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.  For the next month, Baca will meet weekly with the team to review and advise on safety practices for early childhood and child care.

Businesses will be required to implement CSPs in order to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission among customers and staff.  The team will play a key role in this initiative and will also provide confidence for New Mexicans to return to work environments as the economy reopens.

Dr. Eliseo “Cheo” Torres, Vice President for UNM’s Division of Student Affairs, says that Baca’s appointment to the committee is essential. “The committee will play a vital role as to how we move forward not only at UNM but for the state as a whole as we start to return to work.”
