 Assessment in the Division of Student Affairs 

At The University of New Mexico, the Division of Student Affairs is committed to advancing student development and success, which includes engagement in co-curricular assessment practices.  

We focus on enhancing operational effectiveness and contributing to co-curricular student learning through annual assessment projects and participation in comprehensive program reviews utilizing the Council for the Advancement of Standards (CAS) functional area and general standards 

The Division of Student Affairs aims to foster a culture of data-informed continuous improvement among all student affairs units by: 

  • Coordinating divisional assessment activities and CAS program reviews 
  • Providing guidance and support on unit-level student affairs assessment projects, with an emphasis on meeting the unique needs of units 
  • Offering trainings, workshops, drop-in support, and online educational resources that promote effective strategies for planning, implementing, documenting, analyzing, and closing the loop on student affairs assessment 
  • Collaborating with key campus partners to support institutional assessment efforts

Spring Assessment Workshops

Summer 2025 assessment flyer

The Division of Student Affairs is hosting a series of half-day, in personassessment professional development opportunities throughout Summer 2025.

The sessions are intended to provide student affairs units with personalized, structured support to carry out elements of their assessment plans in a timely manner.

Any student affairs unit that desires in-depth support on the session topics are highly encouraged to attend. Topics & dates are listed below:

Student Learning Outcomes

Work on developing new or revising existing student learning outcomes for your unit with support from the Program Planning Officer for Student Affairs Assessment.

  • Option #1: Wednesday, June 11 from 12:30 pm to 5 pm
  • Option #2: Monday, June 30 from 8:30 am to 1 pm

Analyzing Existing Datasets

Use this time to analyze an existing qualitative or quantitative dataset your unit has collected with support from the Office of Assessment and the Program Planning Officer for Student Affairs Assessment.

  • Option #1: Friday, June 20 from 8:30 am to 1 pm
  • Option #2: Wednesday, July 9 from 12:30 pm to 5 pm

Reporting & Closing the Loop

Learn to create data visualizations, draft a report on your assessment findings, and develop a plan for implementing changes to your unit based on your findings with support from the Office of Assessment and the Program Planning Officer for Student Affairs Assessment.

  • Option #1: Wednesday, June 25 from 12:30 pm to 5 pm
  • Option #2: Monday, July 14 from 8:30 am to 1 pm

How To Register for a Session

To attend, a representative team of 2-5 members from the unit must register at least one week prior to the session date. Student team members are encouraged! Registration is required for this event as space is limited. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis. Location information and additional details will be sent to participants as they near their session date.
