Mitzie R. Begay Four Corners Scholarship

This endowed scholarship fund is named in honor of Mitzie R. Begay, esteemed elder member of the Diné tribe (Navajo Nation), and former long-serving social worker at the Fort Defiance Indian Hospital, Fort Defiance, AZ (Tséhootsooí Medical Center). Native American students from the Four Corners region (NM, AZ, CO, and UT) will receive priority consideration. The Fund’s mission is to support eligible Native American students pursuing health professions or advanced social work degrees at the University of New Mexico (UNM); with a specific vision to support and encourage students to return to their tribal communities and work to improve the health and well-being of the community.
