Terri Sperry Carr Endowed Scholarship
As the daughter of an Air Force officer, Terri grew up in many cities including three years at Cape Canaveral and three years in London, England. She attended 11 schools in 11 years. Terri graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority at UNM. Her brother, Glade F. Sperry, Jr., her sister, Kathleen S. Hancock and her niece Emily M. Sperry also graduated from UNM. Terri's professional life included a 30-year career with IBM where she worked in various technical, sales and marketing management positions around the US. Her responsibilities included general management, recruiting sales and technical employees, managing a mass marketing center, implementing the Business Partner Program and managing the completion of a major office building in Orange County, California. Following Terri's retirement from IBM, she spent 5 years as the Director of Strategic Alliances for Vision Solutions, an international software company located in Irvine, California. She managed a global marketing program and business development. Following her retirement from her second career, Terri has been involved in many community organizations including serving as a President of ARCS, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists, a foundation that gives major scholarships to PhD candidates in the sciences and engineering at the University of California, Irvine. Terri is also active in the Orange County chapter of SCORE which provides volunteer business counseling to people who are starting new businesses or would like to grow their business. She was Secretary of the Executive Board of SCORE for six years. She is also a past member of the board of the Junior League and the Volunteer Center. She has also been involved with CAN (Cure Autism Now) and the Discovery Science Center. Terri is one of 40 women featured in the book ''Women of True Grit". Her chapter discusses her early IBM career. Terri, a widow, lives in Anaheim Hills, California. She enjoys traveling, collecting Southwestern art, and interior design.
