Student Spotlight Buddhiphorn “Irene” Sananoue

IreneBuddhiphorn “Irene” Sananoue has deep roots in the federal TRIO programs. In high school, Irene participated in the Upward Bound Math and Science (UBMS) TRIO program for three years. When she enrolled at UNM, she became a participant in the SSS-TRIO Program. “I have been in TRIO for about seven years now,” she says. 

Irene joined SSS-TRIO as an incoming freshman and is currently a Lead Peer Coach for the program. As a Peer Coach, Irene is a valued team member of the SSS-TRIO family. She provides mentoring and tutoring for participants. Additionally, Irene assists with workshops and other program activities. She provides mentorship to new peer staff and assists the director with monitoring program activities.

Irene is a senior majoring in Medical Laboratory Sciences and will be graduating in spring 2022. She plans to work in a reference lab or a hospital lab. A fun fact about Irene is that she’s a polyglot.
