Each October, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) celebrates Careers in Student Affairs Month (CSAM)—a month-long initiative dedicated to the celebration of a career in student affairs, education and awareness in the profession, and engagement with professional associations and peers in the field.

Lesley McKinney named SHAC Counseling Services Director

In July 2023 Lesley McKinney was promoted from the Associate Director of Clinical Counseling to Counseling Director. Her promotion was a unanimous decision by SHAC leadership following her outstanding start as Associate Director, bringing clinical expertise, supervision skills, organizational leadership, and health administration knowledge from her previous posts. She has specific interests in severe mental illness and Trauma-Informed care and is a National Board-Certified Counselor with a certificate in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. 

Paula Smith

Paula Smith Named Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities
September 1, 2023
Paula Smith will join the UNM Dean of Students Office as the new associate dean of students and director of Student Rights and Responsibilities. The newly created position is part of the office’s restructuring plan which also includes the addition of an associate dean of students for Student Wellbeing, a position recently filled by Greg Golden. UNM Dean of Students Nasha Torrez, J.D. said that the two new associate dean positions bring the University of New Mexico into alignment with best practices and standards of other universities across the country, and she is excited to welcome Smith to the team.
