UNM Celebrates Farmworkers In Annual Farmworker Awareness Week
March 26, 2022 - Dorene DiNaro
UNM Camperinos are honoring the work of farmworkers during their annual Farmworker Awareness Week (FAW) celebration on the UNM campus. The Todos Unidos: Farmworker Communities and Activism Past and Present themed event will take place this week through April 2.
This year, the celebration features various tabling and community outreach at different campus locations throughout the week; a screening of The Harvest of Dignity at 5 p.m. in Mitchell Hall Room 101, and ends with a celebration of Cesar Chavez and Delores Huerta livestream event from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2. A donation drive for long sleeve shirts for farmworkers runs on March 24, 30 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Student Union Building Atrium.
FAW directs attention to the unjust conditions seasonal migrant farmworkers face and inspiring dialogues of change. The goal of the long-running FAW is to inform a broad audience of the role that farmworkers play in our daily lives.
