UNM to Host Annual BeKind UNM Week in February

The University of New Mexico BeKind UNM committee is excited to once again celebrate and promote kindness during the annual BeKind UNM Week, Feb. 13-17. The committee has been hosting the annual week of events for over 15 years either in person or virtually during the pandemic.
This year’s celebration features the popular Kindness Carnival, two opportunities to participate in the Teddy Bear Toss during a men’s or women’s Lobo basketball game, and the chance to help fellow Lobos by donating to the Lobo Food Pantry.
The celebration kicks off with the Lobo Men’s basketball game on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. at University Dreamstyle Arena (a.k.a. The Pit). Fans are encouraged to bring a NEW stuffed animal and participate in the Teddy Bear Toss during half time. Fans aim at targets on the court for the chance to be entered into a drawing for one of our grand prizes.
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, everyone is welcome at the free BeKind UNM Kindness Carnival in the SUB Atrium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The carnival includes games, activities, a photo booth, music, visits with therapy dogs and much more! Carnival goers will have have two opportunities to spread kindness to benefit the Lobo Food Pantry by purchasing a bear to use at either Teddy Bear Toss, or making a donation at any food venue in the SUB the day of the event.
The week’s last big event is another opportunity to participate in a Teddy Bear Toss at the Lobo Women’s basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Stuffed animals collected from both games will be donated to Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue to use when they are dealing with children experiencing traumatic situations.
Those hitting or coming closest to the targets for both games will be entered into one drawing for one of eight grand prize packs. Prize packs will include one of the following prizes: one month of free parking from UNM Parking and Transportation; $25 UNM Bookstore giftcard (2 available); one pair of tickets to ABT Studio Company performance at Popejoy on Sunday, March 12; one Recrational Services World of Wellness (W.O.W.) pass (2 available); one Spark Kindness Teddy Bear from The Jennifer Riordan Foundation (2 available); and each prize comes with an assortment of UNM swag.
